when you click add to cart, is should go to paypal page.

1) how do i set it so customers don't need a paypal account to proceed? right now it says "Sign up for a PayPal account and continue"
i've seen other stores paypal check out where it says "Don't have a PayPal account?
Use your credit card or bank account (where available). continue"

2) Before the page I mentioned above, how to get it so there's option of "continue shopping" instead of just "proceed to checkout." This is the paypal page where it shows qty, price, etc.

I think there is a setting in your PayPal account that allows you to accept payments from customers without PayPal accounts.

My Account > Profile > Website Payment Preferences

Scroll down until you see:

2) Are you using the "buy now" buttons or the "add to cart" button on your site?

ok thanks! for 2nd question, currently using add to basket.

also, does paypal let you use promo codes when checking out?

The promo codes should be done on the total before going to your paypal checkout. That is usually something that is done thru your site within your cart settings in your admin panel.
