I just started the beginning of my business with a website. I would like to know what people use for website programs or if there is a thread for it at all. Thanks for any advice and help.
there are a lot of good web deisgn programs out there... many are very easy to use as well. Microsoft Frontpage is very popular and easy to use, and Adobe Dreamweaver is great as well. Some web hosts offer services to create a site as well, such as Yahoo sitebuilder, which is super easy... but is more privative.
Many users also choose to hire a website developer, which is the expensive option to choose, but can also land you a very professional site (considering you hire the right developer)
There are a lot of options... I would advise you to search around and explore all the choices before making one, that way you choose what is right for you and your experience level and needs. Good luck!
You can get a free trial of Dreamweaver to see if you like it. I use it and it's very easy to use. I used it to make my site and I taught myself pretty easily with no web design background.
You use the term website. Is that what you want, just a page or two on the web to showcase your products?
Or do you actually want a shopping cart / ecommerce site where you can sell your products?
They are not the same thing.
If you want just a "brochure" sort of site, telling about you and your products, NVU is a great free site builder.
If you want a shopping cart, I'd suggest CubeCart, which is easy to set up and has a lot of users here on the forum. Help is close at hand, so to speak.
Some of this also depends on the host you are using. If you have just a regular hosting account through one of the thousands of companies offering hosting, you can do whatever you want.
If you are hooked up with some of the "package" people, you are often restricted to what they want you to use.
