Question HELP!! Could somebody please explain how forms are used when building a website?

Helloo everyone,

I am having a bit of bother trying to figure out exactly how my form is going to work when I upload it to my site, and what exactly I need to make the form work!! I'll tell you what I understand, and perhaps somebody could put me straight.

I am using dreamweaver (I know where to go to insert the form etc and add most of the detail.) It asks for the action, which I assumed I could find by clicking inside the form and viwing it in code view to see what the html code was. I don't actually think that is right though as it refers to inputting the info where the form will be processed?

I went on to my web hosting (123.reg) and by doing a quick search I found info about setting up formmail. It says I need to download matts script archive, which generates the code so that it sends it to my e-mail. Should I do this? It sounds complicated and I know zilch about coding. I am just wondering wether this is over my head for me... Maybe I should draft in some help? Any advise would be greatly appreciated

Liza

If you want someone to be able to fill in a form on your website, you'll need to have some way to "process" the forms.

The script from matt's script archive is one way to process the form.

Once you install the script, you will have the "action" to put into the dreamweaver form tag.

The action will be the URL to the formmail script on your server after it has been installed.

The script includes step by step instructions on how to install it, so if you follow those steps, you should be OK.

If you have any problems with any one of the steps, feel free to post here and I'm sure we can get it sorted out.

Thanks Rodney. I will have a go at that. I just was 100% sure I needed 'something else' to make it work!
