Default Dedicated ssl for Cubecart?

Hi,

I'm looking at host and want to add Cubecart. I read this note.

Shared SSL will not function with ASP, JSP or PHP pages. It will function only with html, and cgi/perl based documents/scripts/carts. This is due to security restrictions on the servers. If you require SSL for PHP, ASP, JSP, you will need to purchase a personal certificate and dedicated IP.
We do not offer a Shared SSL Certificate with our Windows plans.

Cubecart is coded in PHP right? Looks like I need dedicated IP and SSL. I just wanted to make sure I sign up for what I need to run the cart. Also, could someone say what ASP and JSP are used for.

Thank You!!
Buz

Yes, its a PHP based system. ASP is a Windows based system, similar to PHP but slower, and requires a Windows server to run. JSP is a Java based technology, also requires a Java server, most hosting companies offer both.

Its interesting to me that these conditions apply to the cubecart solution, as a shared cert works just the same as any other cert. But a popup window will alert your customers of the shared cert, this can be a drawback as it can make customers think that there is an un-secure issue.

I would look at another hosting company if they are giving you that line of you "need" to use a dedicated cert due to it being a PHP code. You don't, and it sounds to me like they are using that to boost sales.

In the end your best off to use a dedicated certificate anyway as its more professional and really does not cost that much extra.

I would just go with the dedicated certificate. I paid $30 for the certificate and $1 extra a month for a dedicated IP. The cost is so small it almost doesn't matter.
