I'm looking to create my own website. I know a little about html and how to create a sight, but does anybody think it would be worth it to get a webmaster to take care of all of that or should I start doing more research on website management? Thanks. Also, what kind of ballpark figure would rates be.

I just went out and bought a bunch of HTML/CSS/PHP/Design/Dreamweaver books. I've been dead to the world for the last three days.
My brain hurts, but I should have the site done by the end of next week.
Thats just me, though, I'm sort of a slightly creative geek that way.
If you've never done anything really computer related before, it may take you a little longer to pick up that stuff.
If your doing t-shirts you should have some creative talent (), so no worries there. I was having trouble being creative when it came to web design, but after skimming a book or two about the 'art' side of things I suddenly had all kinds of great ideas.

If you don't mind the learning curve, you can do it on your own. Just realize that your website is your first impression on a lot of your customers, so if you don't know what you're doing, it can reflect in your website professionalism and cost you customers.
If you have the time to learn how to do it right, I say go for it.
Otherwise, I would suggest outsourcing the website design to someone who has that as their specialty so you can focus on your specialty.
Check places like guru.com, elance.com, rentacoder.com, designoutpost.com, to see what prices people are paying for custom websites.
It really depends on what you are trying to create.
If you are planning on have a storefront as the main part of your site you can get
a free shopping cart(zencart, oscommerce, cubecart, etc) and use that for as your the main part of your site. You can even buy customized skins for these shopping carts so your site looks more professional.

Hi,
I don't know hardly any HTML, but I decided I wanted to build my website myself. My experience is in graphic design, but being that I am a highly creative person, I knew exactly what I wanted to do and have taught myself (still learning) Dreamweaver 8, so that I can have the site exactly how I want it to look.
I looked at buying some of these 'shopfront stores' where you use a selection of different templates to build your site. I couldn't do what I wanted to do though, so I didn't bother.
If you are a creative person and have some idea of what you want your site to look like and what content you need, then all you need is time! There are loads of tutorials you can follow.. If you have no idea, then its probably not worth attempting to do it yourself. I have seen some really lousy sites out there!! (I don't mean on this forum)! Good luck anyway.
if you can't create a professional-looking website on your own, then hire an actual professional to do it for you. anything remotely amateur is going to really hurt your sales. if hiring a pro seems to expensive, consider the cost of tutorial books and the cost of your own time if you decide to do it yourself. you could end up investing more going alone and even then there is no guarantee your site will look great and function properly.
a lot of tshirt companies fail because people think they can wear every hat in the business (artist, printer, web designer, marketer, etc.). play up your strengths and then hire support to fill in the gaps.
best of luck and keep us posted!

If you have photoshop CS2 you create pages with code, even using the image ready function to slice. What I used for my site was a template from yahoo stores. That is the easiest way.

great suggestions, very similar to my webdesign style (i also use css and java). downside, not everbody owns adobe photoshop/imageready; those who own it might not know how to do it.
