Default What can you put on a ecommerce site?

I am new to all this as you can tell, I would like to to know if I need to have a ecommerce site to sell t shirts? What is the difference in the different hostings? I would really like to know if I do have a ecommerce site is there a limit to what I put. For example if I wanted to make a forum about something else would I be able to also have a forum on the same website or would I need to make a link? Like I said I am new to this.

Thanx again and let me thank all of you for helping me so much. I have found so many answers to alot of my questions, that were already asked and you gave the answers, thanxs again.

An ecommerce site is really just a fancy name for a site that sells something

So, technically, if the t-shirtforums.com site had t-shirts for sale, it could be called an ecommerce site.

A site is a site and you can put just about anything you want on it. You can have a section for a blog/forum, you can have a section for selling your products, you can have a contact form section, you can have an about us section.

Now, there are "hosted ecommerce solutions" (like Yahoo store/volusion/shopify/bigcartel) that are hosted by a third party with the shopping cart software already installed. With those type solutions, since you don't control the server/hosting account, you can't really install things like a blog or a forum on them.

But if you got your own web host, installed a shopping cart program like zen-cart or cubecart on it, you could also install a blog or forum on the same host as well.

Hope that makes some sense...if not, just post here and ask for clarification
