| Dye Sublimation using Inket printers (newbie info) Hello just doing some research into dye sublimation and am not too sure sure on one or two things:
1) When you refer to dye sublimation is this only with regard to adding a CISS printing system to a home inket printer and then printing onto sublimation transfers? Or are there actual dye sublimation printers like DTG printers.
2) do the dye sublimated transfers made by adding a CISS to inket printer leave a border like most digital (inket/laser) transfers following application using a heat press?
Thanks. am not 100% sure on the answers here but just need some verification really

| Re: Dye Sublimation using Inket printers (newbie info) With dye sublimation you can use a printer from an office supply store like a c88 etc but you will need actual sublimation inks, just the paper will not work. It does not leave any type of outline but can only be printed on light colored t-shirts and other items like mousepads but needs to be polyester or specially coated to accept sublimation like the mugs, ornaments, dog leashes, clip boards and other items.
Hope that helps a little

| Re: Dye Sublimation using Inket printers (newbie info) you do need sub ink and paper, a epson c88 will work, we have used this for years we also suggest using refillable carts much cheaper then ciss. | |

| Re: Dye Sublimation using Inket printers (newbie info) ciss is a system that has the ink bottles on the outside with tubes running to the printer, can be costly and more problems then carts which are like what your printer already has. You just have to refill every so often. | |

| Re: Dye Sublimation using Inket printers (newbie info) I've been doing a lot of Googling and after reading this thread, I am now confused. A lot of people seem to swear by the CISS system with profile software. Why do you say carts are better? What about the ink control you get with profiling software? | |

| Re: Dye Sublimation using Inket printers (newbie info) To my knowledge, ciss and refillabe systems are the same thing. Ciss are refillable, that is what the c in ciss means-continuous. It cannot be continuous without being able to be refilled.
Is the term cart, short for cartridges? Ciss and refillables both come with cartridges since the original ink cartridges that come with a printer are not refillable.

Thanks. am not 100% sure on the answers here but just need some verification really | | | | | | Another current option to the CISS/refillable cartridge debate (for Epson printers) is the Ricoh GX7000 and 5050N printers.
We were Beta testers for the systems and the results were surprising. Among other things-
The 7000 moves at light speed and the 5050N at warp speed (as compared to an Epson printer). What took about 95 seconds on an Epson 1400 printer, took 21 seconds on the 1400. The 5050N printer is twice as fast as the 7000.
While the 60 mil cartridges cannot be refilled, their yield is astounding. So much so, that I had my tech run the tests a second time, before posting the results on our website.
The most accuate "field test" that has been reported, came from a client who prints large quantities of the same images. He reported a drop in ink costs of about $1.40 per image to approximately $0.55 per image.
Our tests didn't indicate that much reduction, but he is very experienced (and very "dollar conscious"), so I'm inclined to believe him accurate.
