Default Printing Techniques (& Sublimation): Which One, What's Required, How Expensive

Hi,

I’m looking to print t-shirts from home and sell them at markets and some online. There looks to be so many techniques (each with its own terminology), and I’m not sure which is the most appropriate for what I want to do. I have done some research and am aware of heatpress sublimation for example, but what type of printer should I get, what type of heatpress, what type of paper and ink? Also there are fabrics to consider – from what I’ve read sublimation only works on polyester? The final factor is price, how expensive is all this?

I would like the final print to be soft to touch, i.e. one with the fabric. It would also be good to be able to do A3 size, but this would require a bigger printer I guess.

Aside from sublimation are there any other techniques that I should consider? Years ago I had a silk screen and emulsion, and print basic wording on tee’s, but I’d rather steer clear of getting back into this as nowadays I like to use 4 or so colours in my designs. In the past I have also purchased heat transfers from an office/stationary store, and ironed them onto blank garments, but the colours were average and the print was heavy.

Any advice/direction is hugely appreciated. Thanks for your time and patience with what probably seem like obvious questions.

Cheers.
