Default Dye-Sub Transfer Super Silly Question.... Do you need to trim away area around design?

Hello all,

I'm really sure these questions have been asked a million times, but I've been searching the forum for days and somehow I'm missing the answers....

I wanted to know if cutting out the unprinted areas of a design is required when using Dye-Sub transfers....

Also, I'm just a little artist who has been using my press for vinyl but I wanted to try some of my designs using transfers. I really like the feel of Dye-Sublimation, does anyone know a company that can print some transfers in small quantity so I could try it out before I invest in a printing system. I found lists of vendors for custom plastisol & laser transfer printing, but I'm really confused about the difference in Dye-sub and Laser

Help.......
PS...I know nothing about inks and printing

No need to trim around dye sublimation transfers. Only colors migrate to your substrate.

I'd be willing for 5c per sq. inch. Just starting myself, I don't have enough work yet to keep my printer busy. If I don't print something every few days, I have to do a head cleaning.

Cripes Majestic, that's cheap. That's less than 2c per sq. inch. Is that for dye sub ink and transfer paper? If so, it would be cheaper to have you print them than to print them myself. I'm guessing my cost is around 3c per inch.

Anyone want to buy a printer?

A square foot equals 144 square inches. How the heck can anyone print 144 sq. inches for 50c? That's less than 1/2 c per inch. Am I missing something?

Heck Yeah!!!!! I really scored with this thread!!!! I'm sooo happy!!!!
Both SKDave and Majestic said you can do the transfers, but is that using Dye-Sub? It's really important for me not to have to trim the images, I have some really detailed work......

You do not need to trim anything with dye sub,
Just press at 400 for 40 sec.

We use dye sub ink on sub paper. We mirror it and you lay it down and press it or send us artwork for mugs or whatever substrate you want to print on. $1.50 per sheet.

we harge $ 5.00 to mail them out. we can fit a ton of sheets in an envelope for $5.00 in shipping.

You do not have to trim away the excess area on image. That is one of the differences I love about sublimation vs. ink jet paper.
