looking into purchasing the workforce 30 for sublimation. If I buy the Artainium UV+ cartridge, does that mean it's a cartridge i use to replace the oem ink ones? so no need for a quick connect. What else would i need to properly print. and last are their any drawbacks using this method? like the ink clogging the printer? thanks any advice would help.
Yes you simply use the cartridges. It's the most economical entry way to sublimation. It will cost you more per copy on the long run because cartriges are more money per page than bulk.
We have a GEO Knight 994 non-digital multi-swinger heat press, with both the mug and hat attachments and decided to get back into the sublimation business. We purchased the Epson Stylus Photo 1400 with the bulk Artainium inks because they are more cost effective. The system with the ICC profiles, ink, and Easy Flow bulk ink system was $899. With this setup, we can print approximately 600-800 shirts. This also gives you 6 colors for better rendering as opposed to the 4 colors for the Workforce 30.
If you have not purchased your printer yet, this is something to consider. If you are going to be switching between sublimation printing and normal ink jet printing, then the cartridges would be a better option for you. I hope knowing about our choices helps you.
No I won't be switching the cartridges because the printer will only be used for sublimation. And I don't want to spend so much on the printer just in case i mess things up. I want to use this as a tester. I'm also considering silk screening for bulk and then sublimation for detailed designs.
Start with cartridges and later depending on how much ink you're using switch to bulk if need be. Your printer would already be using the ink you want so there is no lost of anything.
As for 6 inks vs 4, it depends on what YOU need. If you need larger format and more range in colors and such, the 1400 is a good printer.
If you just want to get your feet wet, then the W30 is cool.
we still use c88 epsons great little printers, also we use refillable carts, they are cheap and less costly to fill then buying filled carts. If you can get refillable carts I think It is better than the ciss, less chance of things going wrong. good lick
Yes, you will need to get sublimation carts or a bulk ink system. Deciding which to get depends on the amount of printing you are going to be doing. If you are going to print everyday, the bulk ink system would be better. By the time you buy 2 sets of sublimation carts, you could almost have paid for a bulk ink system.
Unless you are dead set on getting the workforce 30, check out the Ricoh Gel Sprinter 5050 and 7000. The 5050 will allow you to do all the print the Workforce 30 will do. It print up to 8 1/2 x 14 paper. It uses only carts and gets a lot of prints out of one set of carts. The GX 7000 will allow you to print up to 13 x 19 paper.
