Default Dye Sub..printer help and assistance

I and friends bought out an Dye Sub. small business and we have two printers C-88 and C-86 one was used for the dye sub and the other for reg. transfers. Unfortunately we have neither driver for the printers.. anyone have a driver disk that they could send a copy to us so we can install the printers? He checked on line, but can't seem to find the drivers.

New to all this dye sub. stuff and trying to figure out what ink is which and need to operate the printers to find out.

Your help appreciated.
Cher

I guess it is an Epson. I googled the model number. Epson America, Inc. - Support: Product Selection - Drivers & Downloads

The printer drivers are available from Epson, however you will still need a correct ICC profile or driver depending on which dye sub setup you have, otherwise your colors will not come out correctly. Sawgrass is the only patented manufacturer for small format dye sub inks in the US, they provide Artainium which utilizes ICC profiles, and Sublijet, which utilizes a modified driver. First you need to determine which you have, then probably contact Sawgrass or the previous owners for assistance on getting the proper profile/drivers, Sawgrass may charge you though.

Thank you for your replies, every bit helps. I could not ask the previous owner, as he has passed away. His family knew nothing of operating the business or where he keep his files.

I am sure there are going to be tons of questions. Example the ink settings you talked about. I need to check that out for for sure.

Like I mentioned.. the blind leading the blind here, so all your help is greatly appreciated.

have you hooked it up and tried it with the stock epson drivers? I use photoshop and the default profiles from it work fine for the sublimation ink we are using. You can choose the profile you wish to use in the print settings before you print. I even tried with epson profiles and it was just a tick off on some colors, but you can manually adjust certain colors if needed. Just remember to save the profile.

Good Luck on your venture!

Ken

Ken we are having all kinds of problems..

WHAT was I thinking..

I just posted to another spot because I could not find this one.. Until now.

We are having issues with the scanned images being unclear.. the transferred images being somewhat cloudy, or greenish unclear images..

I know it is us.. I just don't know how to begin trouble shooting.
Burning up a lot of paper, ink and mugs trying to figure it out.

Two things to check out. Firstly most sublimation paper has two sides, the print side and the backing side. The print side is generally smoother and whiter than the backing side. Sometimes the difference is slight and difficult to see at first, but it is there. Secondly sublimation ink is radically different in its composition to regular inkjet ink, which is why many sublimation inks need a driver profile to 'correct' the colours in the output. Without the driver you will get things like mid blues coming out as purple on your output and skin tones that are too reddish. Without knowing exactly what inks you have in your printer, it is impossible for anyone to give you specific guidance on what profiles you need.
