Default how to save on sublimation ink??

Greetings. I am new to this forum so I am trying to be self sufficient and find my answers here but to no avail. Perhaps someone can help me or point me in the right direction: 2 questions...

1. I print with an epson 4800 and use artanium sub ink. I was told there is a procedure (or software) out there that will allow me to only use black, cyan, magenta, and yellow ink (cutting the ink cartridges i stock in half)...does anyone know how to do this?

2. I was also told that there are ways (software or techniques) to reduce the amount of ink that my printer lays down on the paper (sublimation paper)...can anyone tell me how to do that?

thanks!

griff

1. u can use Multirip to convert the printer to a hybrid printer. which allows you to use the CMYK channels for sublimation and the other channels for regular heat transfers or film output for silkscreen.

2. any good rip software should allow you the options to control ink output.

thanks for the tips! and the fast response! i am looking into it...

one more question, i have played around with sublimating t-shirts...they wash ok cold, but warm water is a killer....is there any way or preserving it to last and actually sell to customers? all i do is print onto sub paper, and sub onto a 60/40 t-shirt at 300 deg for 10 min.

thanks

Easy! Switch from 60/40 to 100% polly. It won't stick to cotton and its the cotton washing out.

Cotton Trans Spray. Try one of the site sponsors or coast graphic supply.

Gotta tell ya I did a shirt useing (RG) red grid paper useing sub ink ArTainium UV and it was Killer so Bright. Even after a wash. No lose of color at all. So if your working with light colors this might be the way to go. This was a 50/50 shirt. Hand was soft too. This week I will test JPSS to see what happends.

Dye sub onto 100% polester shirts should hold up even in the hottest water. You may want to check your times and temperature though. Using dye sub on poly shirts is usually done 1t 400 degrees for 60 seconds not 10 minutes. Be sure to put a blowout sheet inside the shirt or you may find the design on both sides of the shirt.
