Peace
I am asking this question to find out if claria hi-Def ink can be used as sublimation ink for mugs or tee;, or do I have to have sublimation ink for my epson 1400? Peace

The easy answer is NO...sublimation is entirely different than Claria ink. Claria ink is good for normal photo printing and some on the forum have reportedly used Claria ink and JPSS on white/light cotton. I have not so cannot attest to the results
But to your basic question, for sublimation, you need sublimation ink. If you are in the USA, you are limited to Sawgrass products, sublijet and artainium. If you are in Europe, you can get Rotech sublimation ink which is now owned by Sawgrass, but it is not available in USA. I do not know what is available in Asia...I do know that sublimations (some of them) from china are a bit suspect in quality

Do you know any good places in the US to order from? also I was thinking of going the CIS route to do mugs/plates and other things.Peace

If you are going to use a CIS...which will save a lot of money in the long run...buy the CIS and the ink from the same source...check with our vendors and see who is closest to you...reason to buy from the same place is that if you have any problems, you only have one place to call...as to price..all will be about the same because no matter where you buy..all sublimation ink for desktop printers come from Sawgrass
Can I just buy sublimation ink cartridges for my Epson 1400 and start printing onto the sublimation paper or do I need any special software/hardware to be able to print with sublimation ink?
Yes you can start printing right away there is a small driver file to install. But that would be a very costly mistake the dye sub ink in a carteridge is extremly expensive, one license plate full color would run around $5.00 per print, before the plate. A mug would run $2.5 a hat $2.5 a shirt $12.00. Get a ciss bag system from sawgrass to get you started run it for four months the usable shelf life of the ink see how it goes on profitablity, and if you want to continue if it all goes well buy yourself a large format 9800, 9880, hybrid or straight dye sub and then make yourself some real money and only spend .33 to make that same plate and .65 for your shirt. I personally run an older 9600 with refillable carts there 220mil so refill is only about once a month. But I will never go back to a small format. But a 1400 with ciss is the bes comprimise in price and long term investment. My first year in business I did every thing with an epson 260 running a Ciss off of ebay, with sawgrass inks never had any problems when I did my maintenance. Things like actually turning off the printer at the end of the day, Running a Cleaning cycle in the morning and at noon if I ran more that 10 prints. Doing those two things I ran that little 260 for 14 months and made over 600 plates. I had expected to need to buy one every month. Considering that the 1400 has bigger lines and a heavy printhead you should do great if you follow the instructions on install and maintenance. You can let the machines sit for a week or two with out clogged heads provided you turn it off. Hope that helps
Thanks for the info! After looking around, the ink in both cartridge and CISS is too expensive for me to justify moving to dye sub right now. Oh well. Too bad Sawgrass basically has a monopoly on that ink.
