Default Help! new to sublimation

Hi,

I just got a New Epson 1400 that i isntalled a CISS with sublimation ink, all is going well, i print on sublimation paper and the colours come out very light.
I was told to choose photo lux, phot enhace and normal paper, printed black (pale black) i put it ona a mug, i pressed it on the mug pressed for 3,5 minutes and when i take teh transfer out the balck turned brown....!!
What iam i doing wrong (better yet the printer or inks...)
I called the man that sold me the printers (iam in Portugal) ans i was tols to put extra glossy paper thick ??!! iam thinking this must be the ink and not the paper on the printer since its all brand new...
Anyone had a similar problem ? pls help

Carmen

Depending on what ink you are using you will need either an ICC profile or Powerdriver to correct your color. There are some inks being used in Europe that may not need these so we really need to know what ink , paper, mug press, mug brand and temperatures you are using. One thing to check is to make sure you are using ink jet sublimation coated mugs.

make sure your press gets to 400 degrees, very important for the inks to sublimate, for paper try epson presetation matte paper use the briter white side, also on your design make sure your black is black. write down your setting on each paper you use so you can compare final product, there are alot of printer settings, you'll have to experiment. good luck

I am not familiar with Printek since in the US we only have 2 inks, both sold by the same company. Check with your supplier about an ICC profile, like I said there are some that do not require them. Getting a true black is a good test for the quality of the ink and even the best ones can have problems. Are the other colors transfering ok or are they off as well?

As for the temperature for mugs I would go with the press instructions. My Phoenix gets to 385F, some run 400F. I believe this is around 180C - 185C.

One thing you might try if you can is to print using the black ink only, that will tell you if you are getting a true black in the printing. Sometimes the printer uses all colors to make black. There is a setting in the printer properties to do this.
