Default Droping Dye Sub Shirts

After an exhaustive attempt of R&D and marketing to a very diverse customer base I have decided to start eliminating "Sub Shirts" from my line. They fail as a fashion shirt. They are a white or light market only shirt. They are too expensive to produce in bulk for volume resale, and you are now basically down to one manufacturer that has no idea of what the fashion business is about.
We are now looking into volume screening, vinyl, and other decorating methods. I know these factors apply to my particular business model but I am interested to hear your comments.

you have to sell the quality of the shirts, lots of younger crowd will pay for the vapor line and you can still get that niche market, schools, churches, small buss that don't need super large quantities. our local health clubs love the new shirts. sell to the people that will buy your stuff, don't worry about the others.

We never considered dye sub for apparel due to all the reasons you mentioned. We decided to purchase a direct to garment printer with white ink. Like Cafepress in the past, we thought white tees was too restrictive as designers. There is more to a tee than just a design. There's a synergy between shirt style, color, print method, and the design. It takes all of them to achieve a vintage or whatever other look and feel. Other printing methods open up a new realm of creativity and options.

We do alot of dye sub and find that young athletic people are the base for these shirts. We sell alot to a military base. Also soccer teams, volleyball teams, etc use poly type shirts. Moisture wicking tees are big in the south, for practical reasons, but might not be all the rage in colder regions.

Hi Neal. Like yourself I have found the limitation of sublimation printing onto white(ish) only tee shirts, presents significant commercial disadvantages.

It is a undeniaby a niche market product and I agree with you totally, about the lack of suitable garments being a major hurdle to both presenting and marketing the product.

If I had the space for a DTG machine, my sublimation system would be history.
