I currently use a Epson 1280 for most of my prints but I am considering putting the inkjet to the side and moving to a laserjet.
I am leaning towards the oki 5500n and was wondering if anyone has any experience with it or Oki products in general. Also what are the pros and cons when switching to a laserjet.
Some of my more detailed printing I have outsourced and they use a laser printer. From what I have seen the print quality has always been top notch.
Also is there a market for used 1280s? I will have 2 that I might get rid of if I move over to the Oki.
The answer to this would depend on a couple things. Are you going to be doing laser sublimation? If so and you are doing hard substrates you will get a residue from the laser sub toner that you will need to wipe off. Laser sub toners are also not quite as accurate when it comes to things like fleshtones so if you are super critical of these you may need to do some adjusting in the colors.
As for the 1280's they are loved by some and hated by others so all you need to do is find the right person.
You replace your OEM toners withe special dyesub toners and print transfers just like the inkjet sublimation. Alpha Supply I believe sells Laser sublimation toner and their website is loaded with good info. They are listed in the sponsors on this site down the left hand side and they can tell you a lot better than I can.
