Default Epson Cleaning Cartridges

Has anyone used the cleaning cartridges on their Epson printer?

I have read threads that say you can fill empty cartridges with distilled water or a mixture of windex and distilled water to clean clogged printer heads, then I read on websites that these approaches can ruin the printer and you need to purchase their cleaner.

If you do need to purchase a cleaner, any recommendations on what and where to purchase?

I have one print head that clogs every day. It works fine after one cleaning cycle.

I have an older printer that I thought was irreversibly clogged but thinking I may be able to salvage if these cleaning cartridges and print head cleaners actually work. I had tried all the other methods.

I'd appreciate any ideas!

Thanks Dave!

I'm a little nervous about taking the printer apart, I'm not very mechanical. May ask my 16 year for help....he likes taking things apart and trying to put them back together.

if you have already throughly searched the forum, there are many threads about various head cleaning methods that have worked for people -- both preventative and post clogging. So you should definitely try some of those easier techniques before you go for the full disassemble & vaccum.

forum search for: epson clogged heads

If those threads fail to help unclog it, go on the article's more technical method. Just use a digital camera to take picts as you disassemble at each step, then follow the picts in reverse order as you reassemble. Cheap, easy, and virtually fool-proof--- as long as you dont break anything along the way. ;o)~

I do that when working on engines, and it's the best thing since grilled PB & J's.
