Default sublimation - a specialty?

I just got back from ISS Atlantic City - my first show!! My head is still spinning! I am still in the beginning stage of my business. I will not be doing the printing, which apparently needs to be sublimation. I got the impression at ISS that I should find someone who really knows how to do this. I'm in NJ. Do I just start calling screen printers and hope that they've switched over to sublimation?

I have had excellent experiences with MyTransferSource.com. Good prices, quick turnaround, quality transfers, and superb customer service.

Just curious as to why you are planning to outsource, though. I outsource because I'm just experimenting at this point. However, if it were the core of my business, even though it does have its advantages, I would think that outsourcing would just be too much trouble. Have you looked into purchasing a printer and setup for sublimation?

Chances are screen printers arent switching to sublimation. They might add the ability to sublimate but they arent leaving the bread and butter. You might read up on sublimation and what is involved. You need to print on high content ployester fabrics of at least 65% to get good results. There are some pre-treatments out there but the higher the poly content the better. You will also need to print on white or light colored shirts.

sublimation is not the answer for all things...it is only good for 100%polyester white/light and some pastels from Vapor Apparel. It is not for dark colors at all..even 50/50 blends is not good unless you want a distressed look...I don't..the sublimation ink will not bond to cotton so it washes out. Sublimation is expensive..even the least expensive printer ink set up is $500 or so...a sublimated shirt cannot compete with the normal transfers in price...just in quality on certain substates. I have an article I wrote about sublimation ...what it is and what it is not...send me PM with email and I will send you a copy

Screen printers are not going to switch..believe me... you are just starting...get a heat press and do plastisol transfers to start..

Don't settle on just sublimation...it is a vertical market only for speciality products. Or so it seems to me..

I am trying to start a clothing line, which will mostly be made up of performance wear - dry wicking. I visited with different apparel companies at ISS and attended a workshop by Chris Bernat from Vapor - so I did learn a little bit about sublimation. I personally prefer a performance line that has some cotton added. What are your thoughts about sublimation with 15% cotton? Is that too much? A hate the fact that sublimation is limited to light colors.

Anyway.....since I hope to be the successful "branded" shirt entrepreneur, I won't be learning how to print. I just needed to get educated in the area so I know what to look for when I hire someone.

I would love to have a parallel line of sueded cotton shirts - but still can't find them anywhere!! Closest, is ring spun combed or brushed cotton. Is there a best way to print on them, that yields a soft hand? ( get to use my new lingo acquired at ISS)
