i run epson 3000's but i've never used anything BUT a cartridge in mine...you can get the refillable ones from jetblaster and still buy the inks in bulk. - best of both worlds

The 1400...as you know has 6 carts...so yes you can use carts instead of a CIS...but it will cost you in the long run. the carts cost $75-$80 each and you can be sure you will run out of ink in one cart before the others...then you have to get new cart...and before long one of the other carts will go..so buy another...so when do you cut your losses and get the CIS?

I don't think jetblaster has carts for the 1400...they special in wide format printers and Epson does not consider the 1400 a wide format.

I would not buy carts from one place and ink from another..in case they don't work well together, each will point to the other as the culprit.
..nk but I had problem getting the ICC profile right....finally got it

I think they sell carts for about $50 or less but not refillable ones I don't think..I know Conde has carts but again not refillable

Charles has some good advise on not buying carts and ink from different suppliers!

Now..I only have a Epson C88 and decided to go with the cartridges to start out. Yes, the black ink went out first and I'm sure one of the other colors is next . I decided to go this route since I was a bit new (still am) and wanted to see how I liked it before I invested that much money into a bulk system. Also, I will probably upgrade my printer before going with a bulk system. But, in the long run (actually more intermediate run) you will save quite a bit of money using the bulk system over the cartridges.
