If you use shirts with side colored panels.....how close can you get the colors on to match?
I'm working on white based shirts with colored side panels, and I can't get an exact match of the side panel. Is it even possible to get an exact match?
There are often shade cards supplied by the makers of dye sublimation systems (PDF, Corel files). You might find these, print them and simply match them to the side panels. We select the fabrics that we use as accent panels and match artwork this way. This way we know we will have no problems matching. It's maybe an easy way out for us since we design and make the clothing, but it simplifies the process in reverse also. You will need a good color matching system to print accurate colors.
conde has a good article on color matching called street smart color matching.Basically saying print a RGB color pallette on the color substrate you are trying to match and pick the closest color. We had same problem printing a a hockey team logo on hoodies. On the white they looked great but on the grey the blue looked asomewhat purple. So we took a bunch of colors from a color pallette and preesed on another hoodie and pick the closest match which was almost spot on Hope this helps
Printing a pallet works very well, but in our experience, different fabrics can yield different colors, so it is probably best to test print on the fabrics that you will be using.
