What's the difference between the 4800 and 4880?

Here are some of the differences between the 4880 and 4800:
- Both use different cartridges and the chips are different as well
- The 4880 has a teflon coating at the bottom of the printhead for some more protection if something its it and is "suppose" to prevents nozzles from clogging. No clue if this will really make a difference or not in the long run.
- Heard about the ink lines in the 4880 having some teflon coating in them to prevent clogging as well. No clue if this is true or if it will really make a difference.
- The 4880 is a little bit faster, but not that much to make a real difference to the average decorator.

Currently, Sawgrass does not have the sublimation cartridges with the correct chips for the 4880 yet. They are working on it and hope to have it soon.

As for what printer is the best, it depends on a couple of things:
- The larger the printer, the cheaper your cost per a print is. But, you spend more upfront on the printer. If you go with the 7800, your cost per a print is much less. $350 Liter for SubliJet IQ inks versus $150 per a 110 ML on the 4880 and below.
- If you don't want to print larger than 13", then the 1400 is a great printer. It is pretty darn fast. The only negative is you have to use a bulk feed system if you want to print profitable. The ink can clog up in the lines if you don't run it every other day or so.

Just some things to think about. Good luck in your search.

Mark

Did you get your machine at the Long Beach Show? I ask because the ArTainium ink is made by and packaged by Sawgrass. I just talked with them at the Orlando Show and they are close to having them, but the only ones out there right now are beta chips. If it is working for you, then great. I know some other machines that were having problems. Hopefully, it will be cleared up this week because the 4XX0 series of Epson printers are one of the most popular ones for a production shop. They barely every clog up.

I purchased my machine from Conde the first week (maybe 2nd week) of January.

The only issue i have had was that my inks were running out and the machine didn't know it was. I have 110ml carts and they believe the chips on them were 220ml chips.

I was told right now Conde is installing the Chips on the Carts until Sawgrass is ready to start doing that.

It sucked because it caused me to be down for almost a week, seeing that we didn't know what the issue was and the printer thought I had ink, so we (conde tech support and I) was a clogged nozzel.

They were very adimit that it was not a bad cartridge. But after the 3rd one...yes 3rd one.....and my basically saying that it had to be the cartridge, They asked me to open the 3 cartridges to see if they were empty or if they had ink. They were all empty.

They said they would refund me the 3 overnight shipping charges that I had occured trying to get the machine up and running.

Other then that it has been flawless. My biggest issue now is color matching on shirts. (matching color side panels on shirts)

by the way, that only happned on the colors...not on the Photo Black.
