Are only Epson printers the best to use with Sublimatin shirts. Or can other manufactures be used? I was just wondering because I see mostly Epson Printers. Also what is the difference between the Epson C88 and C88+. Can you use either for Sub shirts. I just want to start doing my softball teams shirts as a hobby not looking to get crazy busy. Any help yall?
Most use Epson printers because they will not heat the ink when printing. You can use other printers, but they reduce the quality of the final product because some of the sub-ink will gas during printing.
At least this is what I have read here and elsewhere. There may be exceptions that I have not heard of.
You are somewhat limited by which printers are supported by those who produce sublimation ink and CIS. In the inkjet category, Epson print system works best and only specific models have proven sublimation ink supplies. The C88 series is all the same except for some speed variations. The newest, the 4800 hybrid, with the ability to use two sets of ink, has been getting very good reviews.
Fred is right about the softball jerseys. Might want to look at alternative methods. However, if you want high premium shirts... look at getting white twill names / numbers cut for you and then dye sub them in full digital colors. You can use film / flock to seal the edge of the twill if you don't have an embroidery machine.
Also, at the Baltimore Show this weekend, Sawgrass released the ink for the Epson 1400 (the replacement printer for the 1280 model). Prints looked about the same.
If you don't use sub ink will the color fade quickly or will it last some time. I have heard others using HP printers. Do they make sub ink for them and I have heard of others using Lexmark printers. Is this true.
If you use polyester fabric the dye sub ink will hold up.I would just use plastisol transfers from Ace Transfer Company . They are the company, I use and are always very helpful to me. Good luck. ...JB
