Re: epson 1280: inkjet and artanium uv. What is the difference? yeah your printer was used for printing sublimation transfers most likely. artainium inks can only be used on special items (tshirts, mousepads, hats, mugs, etc.etc.) that have been treated with a layer of polyester. the ink turns into gas when it reaches 400 degress f. and then transfers over and penetrates the layer of polyester..basically "tattooing" itself into the polyester. i print t-shirts (hanes softl'inks) and get great results using this method. since the ink penetates the layer of polyester...you cannot feel it once on the shirt. inkjet inks are your basic inks that you would use for printing regular inkjet heat transfers. using the inkjet method you get inferior results when pressing shirts. artainium inks are costly...but very well worth the investment.
one word of advice..im almost 100% sure the previous owner used sublimation (artainium or other brand) inks..but just to be on the safe side..you should probably ask just to make sure. and another thing..if you do find that it was used for sublimation..i would use that printer strictly for sublimation. id advise you not to try to use the same printer for both sublimation and inkjet. its just not worth the mess and trouble. good luck with the new business by the way. |
