Exclamation Subliglass Plaques on Wood Base - URGENT!

Hey Fellow Dye Subbers -
I need some input on the subliglass plaques that are attached to the rosewood base/backing. I have a customer that wants a really high end plaque and saw this item in a catalog. My problem is the catalogs just cut & paste the image onto the photo - the glass is not actually printed! So, if any of you have used this particular item, how opaque is the subliglass itself - will the imprint be vibrant/solid enough, or will it all blend into the rosewood?? Are they similar to the glass cutting boards in opacity - because those are quite fine. My sales rep tried his best, but obviously they have to make statements w/ all kinds of caveats .. so we didn't get very far. These puppies go for $45 ea. so it's not like I can experiment for myself these days!
Any help would be very very much appreciated .. needless to say, client woke up at the last moment .. very little lead time on this one.
Thanks!!
Reka

Default Re: Subliglass Plaques on Wood Base - URGENT!

Reka-

If I can remember correctly we did some of these for a client some years back. I can't remember the opacity but here is a good rule of thumb.

White backing equals very vivid images with great color saturation...as you already know with cutting boards.

Semi-Opaque will result in a more translucent finish....unless you mount it on top of white.

Contact the vendor and ask what the backing /coating looks like; the above info should give you a representation of what results you can expect.

If they can not describe what the coating looks like....you may want to look for another vendor

Hope this helps,

Jae
