I asked it because it seems i-Dot machine seems to need the press before and after....

Generally speaking, you press before printing to matt down the fibers in the shirt. This provides a smooth printing surface for the ink, otherwise the fibers would continue to stick up, through the ink, and the color of the shirt would show through the layer of ink causing the print to appear faded. We press again after printing to cure the ink, by removing the water from the water based ink which leaves behind only the pigments in the ink. Hope that helps...

On light shirts, no pretreatment is necessary, on dark shirts it is for the white ink to adhere to.

There is a light shirt pretreatment that works good for better washing results, and helps with fading, but is not needed to print.

On dark color shirts it is absolutely necessary to put down pretreatment first.

With both light and dark color shirts, it is then required that you cure the ink with a heat press, once it has been printed.

Hopefully that makes it more clear.
