I have a customer requesting a quote to print on terry cloth towels. We only offer printer on t shirts so I haven't experimented with towels but this person is a friend of a close friend of mind so I want to do it for him.
Has anyone here tried printing on them? I found some terry cloths online that are 100% cotton so I assume it should be fine but I was wondering if anyone came across any problems. I have a feeling the fibers would be a little more difficult to print on than a regular shirt.
Also, can anyone recommend a good place to purchase them? I live in the east bay of California - close to Oakland/SF.

- I have a DTG HM-1
My DTG guy just started printing on 100% cotton hand towels and they turned out great. I think they were Anvil with the loop hole. (Golf towel?) He also has an HM-1.

You'll have to experiment a little on ink coverage but you should be able to print terry towels. The nice part of printing with a digital garment printer is that you're using water based inks so your print will have a very soft hand.
I have a DTG printer as well and have not printed on terry. If you have the time would you post a picture of your results? I'm sure I as well as many others would be appreciative to see them. GL with your project hope it works out.

im contemplating sending this one to my screen printer but im not sure yet. if i do it myself i will definitely post up the results and pictures. i may even just buy a few at walmart and test it out regardless.
Most screen printers only print textiles with plastisol ink which gives a vinyl feel to the ink. Very few print with water base inks which is what you need to give towels a no hand feel. If you are contracting out towels to a screen printer make sure that they have the capacity to print them with water based inks.
That is one of the advantages you have with printing with digital direct to garment printers since the inks used with them are all water based. You should hardly be able to feel the ink on any white or light colored goods.
I agree with Harry.. we did some green towels with white ink it took up almost the entire golf towel and it looked really nice.. I didn't take any pictures but we were really pleased.
The job is actually delayed for a while so I never completed it for those who were looking for some pictures. I believe the towels were going to be used for cleaning (its for a carpet cleaning business) so I wonder if screen printing with plastisol would be better than DTG since it wouldn't fade as fast,
