While I was in the middle of printing a shirt my HM1 just froze so I turned it off and back on. When it turned on a loud horrible noise started coming from the capping station area. I posted a video on YouTube so you can see/hear it:
The reason the noise stops in the video is I hit the emergency stop button. I'm afraid to let it go because something might be getting damaged.
Does anyone have an idea of what the problem is? It kind of sounds like a gear might not be catching. I have a huge order fill and I just moved 6 hours away from Mesa's office to have it reparied I am completely lost on what to do
Re: What is this horrible noise coming from my HM1?
It sounds like while you cleaned the capping station a piece of gunk fell inside the gears. If you can find it your OK, or call a tech.We have an Anajet and it did the same thing an while the tech replaced the capping station I played with the old one and got it free. Good luck. John
Re: What is this horrible noise coming from my HM1?
Hi Ryan,
The noise coming out from your HM1, is due to the fact that your print head try to move right to left but the capping station has not unlock the print head.
I suggest you to turn off the power, then unlock manually your print head with a screw driver. Check you could move your head right and left easly. Then let your head in the middle of the print area and turn on the power (general and head). Your print head and capping station should reset their position. Normally your problem will be solved.

Thanks for the reply. I know we have different machines...but where in your capping station was the gunk? I'm not really sure where to look

I have tried moving the head to the center and other side of the printer, but it just moves back to the capping station and makes the noise again
Re: What is this horrible noise coming from my HM1?
Hi Ryan,
When it make the noise, you stop it by pressing emergency stop and could you move the head or not ?
If not could you see where it's blocked ? Is the white pieces on capping station down ?
It seems that your capping station doesn't free the head.
It's possible to readjust the high of the head axes by moving "the white plastic wheel" on both side of the head block. But I suggest you to contact your DTG distributor to solve your problem.

Re: What is this horrible noise coming from my HM1?
Ryan,
Mathieu is correct. This is a locking up problem. The noise you are hearing is the belt motor spinning in the belt. This tells me your capping station is holding up the printhead from moving. This could be caused by many things. Gunk falling inside it and not allowing proper operation or a dirty capping station where you can not see(these do need to be replaced between 9mos to a year). If you call the DTG Rep you bought the machine from, they should be able to send you instructions for removing the capping station, it is about a 30min job, then you may be able to clean it up or you could just get a new one.

Recently I had the same problem with my printer. There is a tab that sticks up on the capping station that locks the head in place when the capping station is raised. Your capping station is not dropping down when it is supposed to so it is not releasing the head. I had to replace my capping station to fix the issue.
Re: What is this horrible noise coming from my HM1?
Okay, I took apart my capping station and it was a mess. The gears and everything were completely covered in gunk. Now I'm trying to put it all back together but I'm stuck...
Does anyone know Where the 4 tubes go on the sponge part of the capping station?
I attached pictures of what I'm talking about below. There are 2 tubes that are connected to something in the printer and two that aren't. So I wanted to know which one goes in which hole on the bottom of the sponge thing. Also the 2 tubes in the picture that aren't attached to anything - after connecting them to the sponge thing where do the other ends go?
