As there's some Blindingly Obvious™ questions which I've been unsure about for a while now, I thought I'd start a series going (hopefully, for the benefit of many others

)
On our WIMSless HM1, we have CMYK + white containers. Each ink bottle has the U-shaped metal breathing tube and also has the larger plastic caps which you can pop open or closed (they're about 1cm in diameter and are part of the screwtops on the containers).
Different people have recommended completely contrasting practices - keep them open when printing, keep them closed when printing, only open them when doing ink charges etc... Common sense tells me to keep them closed all the time to stop the ink from 'skinning' or beginning to dry out, but am I correct in that? Are the metal breathing pipes in each ink container are sufficient to ensure that the system remains correctly pressurised?
TIA
