Default white "choke"?

I'm trying to get a white outline around the design.I'm using DTG RIP pro V.04. I was told in the Choke menu that negative numbers move the white out and the positive move it inside or under the design. When I do place a-4 all the way around it tells me all I can use is from -1 to 100. Was I told wrong?
I'm using PS cs4 for designing and have put a stroke of black around the design.. then I need a stroke of white to set it off from the dark shirt. It also has a drop shadow. Any suggestions?
JAC

Hi,

Is it a vector file or image. Also do you have illustrator.

it's an image design some lettering and medical cross.I saved as psd format. I'm a bit new to Photoshop, learning as I go. I do vinyl graphics so I use a program called Flexi-sign, but it is much like illustrator. I do have illustrator as well.

A -1 is as low as you can go in the minus column, no -2, -3 etc!

There are negative and positive numbers when you use the feed BUT nit the choke!
Maybe you just are confused as to what they said?

-1 is a negative number. If there were larger negative numbers the function would be called a spread, not a choke. The feature is not designed to make up for design inadequecies, it is designed to make up minor variances in printer registration.

For an outline on your design, you will need to add an outline in your graphics program. The choke is only used to make sure your printer registration is correct.

If you create an outline for white make sure you do not use pure white or it will not recognize it!
