Question Jumping off the screen...and getting a quote on a Kiosk II (need advice)

Hey Everyone,

First off I’d like to say this site has been a great resource for me and I really appreciate everyone that has posted. As soon as my company gets off the ground I’ll be supporting it whenever I can. Ok so now for the post.

My friends and I have been running a really tiny screen printing shop out of one of our basements for about a year. We’ve been averaging about 45 shirts a month making shirts for local businesses. Our dirty little secret? Our goal is to sell our original designs. We only actually started doing “bulk” jobs while we worked on our website/webstore. Turns out that over the last year we’ve realized that a direct to garment printer is going to be the way to go for the shorter runs that we are going to do.

I’m at the point where I’m trying to nail down all the financial planning of a DTG printer. Tomorrow I’m going to call and get some pricing on a Kiosk II, but I was wondering how close the pricing I’ll get “on paper” from the sales rep will be to what we’ll actually see in “the shop”.

Does anyone have super rough estimates on monthly machine costs? We’re still not sure of whether we’re going to lease or take out a loan. (I'm off to go compare that now) Here is what I’m expecting to need:
Printer
Heat press
Platens
Software
Training
Some type of service agreement?

As for ink, I've read up on some average costs and am figuring on about $2 per shirt for the designs we are doing. (general humor, band shirts, one color contracting/landscaping/dance studio designs)

Any responses would be super mega greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

-Kevin

The Kiosk II is no longer being made, however, we continue to have refurbished units available and will continue to support them. The Viper does not "replace" the K-2, it is simply a new entry into the market for us. We are working on a K-3 that will be a "replacement" for the K-2, but it is still a ways out. For a startup business the K-2 is not a bad investment based on reliability and cost.

Thanks for the heads up Tftalk!

I was just caught by the whole "Low-cost, Flexible, and Portable for as low as $9,995!!" I'm expecting that I might need or find value in things that would bring the price above that, but that's at least what drew me in... I guess it has done it's job.

Either way, I guess (in my case anyway) the question would really apply to any printer that was "as low as $9,995!!" We're looking for a relatively inexpensive way to print on dark garments and I've heard pretty good things about the DTG Kiosk II.

Thanks for the heads up on that Don... I'm still looking to get some basic info from the community once I do and work the numbers a little I'll be calling.

Perhaps a bit zealous - we have not seen our prototype yet, we expect it in the next few weeks, I anticipate a release in June, maybe July. We want to run it through the paces before release. A lot of the features are similar to the Viper, but it is a new print engine for us. More info as we get it.
