I own a HMI Kiosk and I am pretty happy with the machine but not so happy with my rip pro and customer service.
My Problem is when I print an image that is not all the way at top of the shirt my printer has what I call "hick-ups" It will print the top of the image all the way down until it gets to where the image starts. It will just repeat over and over again printing about a quarter of an inch.
It used to not do it but now it wont stop. I have not changed my settings in my rip pro. It one day just came out of no where. I called Mesa tech support and they seem to think that by powering down the printer and unplugging for 5 - 10 mins will fix it but it never has. I clear out my rip pro on a regular basis but it doesn't help anything.
My guess is it is my rip software. I ran a high tech sign company using Flexisign and Onyx Production House so I know what a good rip program is and mine seems cheap for this printer.
Anyone have this problem before and/or have any solutions? Advice would be helpful. Thank you
Yep that was my first thought, the encoder strip. it is right on the back behind where the print head runs. If it gets anything on it even little ink specks it can make your printer print incorrectly. I use a foam qtip cleaner and a little windex and wipe it all the way down on both sides. I would try this and see if it helps. You can also clean with just a little distilled water on the little foam cleaner, I usually use distilled water on the cleaning tip after I use the windex so I dont get any buildup of anything on it. Hope this helps.

I was actually talking about the encoder scale that would normally control paper feed control(s). Similar to the encoder strip but for just more of the Y-Axis so to speak
The clock encoder is located on the left side of the machine, you will need to remove the front blue casing and fan cable to get to it. when you come to clean it make sure you clean the laser that reads the wheel too.
I agree with Gareth, it sounds like the encoder wheel. With the larger printhead on the HM-1 you get more misting when it "blows its nose" on the left-hand side of the machine and thus need to be a bit more diligent about cleaning it than was needed on the earlier machines.
Hope this helps!
By the way, if you want to confirm that it is hardware related, stick an old shirt in there and try printing with the Epson 2400 driver. I doubt it is RIP related - Fred and Ted were writing RIP's when a lot of the Amiable/Scanvec boys were still in diapers.
