Hi All,
I have struggled with pretreating shirts. I have read many posts and I thank so many of you for your comments and suggestions to how to treat shirts the best way.
I think I have found mine!!!
Treating on a table didn't work for me because I am short and that used to stain the shirt. So, I have created a station on the floor. When I purchased the kiosk II I was given 2 platens and right now I am using one of them for spraying the shirt and making sure that I only get the spray on the area that I truly need. Also, when it's on the floor I am much further from it and the mist, spray doesn't effect the shirt as much.
I'm hoping to create a wooden box that is the same box as the platen so I don't have to use that for spraying. I hope this helps someone. I wish I did this a month ago. I would have saved me a few shirt. LOL
You definitely should have the t-shirt more vertical rather then horizontal. HLVP sprayers do not like spraying downwards and its best (and easier) ifyou made that wooden box asap. YOu could even just use a card board box and stand it upright on an angle, thats what I do and its great.

Thanks, I do plan to put together the wooden box but the platen is working in the meantime. I tried spraying on a table, hanging and pinning the garment upright and I had staining. In the past week and a half, I have done the pretreatment as described above and it has worked great. I have worked on over sixty or so shirts, orders, no stains. Yes, not that many but for a newbie it's a LOT. The sprayer has not had problems. Whatever works I guess.
When we first started out we also created a template to ensure we only pre-treat the area that will be hooped and for the most part a template worked. The problem we had was we had a hard time ensuring we hooped EXACTLY where we pre-treated the shirt after drying it, etc.
Several times the print started an inch or half an inch outside of the area and caused us to lose the shirt.
Now we just use a low table and try to spray on evenly to the major part of the shirt area that will be hooped, it's not perfect but we have less wasted shirts due to missed pre-treat areas.
While you do not have to pretreat white shirts you will find that the colors are better and they wash better. I buy mine from American Screen Supply in Phx Az.

we use one of those science 3 fold displays that are made of cardboard. we put the shirt over that and spray, brush, and it works great. this is for darks only, for lights we put the shirt on the heat press, spray and press. we use spray bottles for both pretreats.
