Default HM1 Spot Colour print problems

I've been having problems printing areas of spot colour on our HM1.
It only occurs when printing onto a white underbase. The final print doesn't look 'solid', and after pressing small portions of the colour come away from the print.
So far I've tried printing at different resolutions, letting the underbase dry betweeen passes, but to no avail. It's not an ink issue - I have a Kiosk running next to it and it prints spot colours fine, so I assume its either a print driver and or RIP problem.
Prints onto white are fine.
Any ideas appreciated......
Al

Hi Alistair
Try changing your colour resolution to 1440x720 economy.

Hi Gareth, how was Germany?
Changing the resolution improves things, but doesn't solve the problem unfortunately. Any other ideas?
And whilst I have your attention, when are we getting the new white ink that they've had in the US for ages?
Cheers
Al

Hi Alistair
Germany was good thank you.
We only supply the new white ink now and have been for a while I will check your recent orders and let you know.
With your Rip software you have the option of turning down the white underbase its default setting is 255, try 245 instead this might help your colours sit properly.
