Default Dark colored shirts fading after 4-5 washes!

After five or so washes on my black shirts some of the images are starting to chip away and fade. Is everyone elses shirts fading and chipping after this many washes ? (hm1-c)

I have read other posts on this subject saying that the pretreatment or press time was wrong, and that was the problem. In other words, I just want to make sure I did not spend a ton of money on something that prints unreliable t-shirts. Anyone with any experience and success with the HM1-C and if so, how many washes should dark shirts make it through before the print starts peeling or cracking ?

90% of our business is dark shirts and they seem to last longer than our white shirts.

I am gonna say its pretreat and heat press timing.. Do you happen to know any professional painters? ones that use paint guns for a living..

I know its a weird question but my partners close friend is a professional painter and we couldn't get the hang of the pretreat (Wagner gun) our shirts were coming out like yours are. He came over adjusted the gun and showed us a few tricks and ever since then its been a breeze and our pretreat problems are gone.

Also, we had a professional painter in our DTG class and he was the only one that got it right on the first try. Its worth a try cause I feel that class wasn't long enough to teach the proper pretreat techniques and its really something that can't be taught over the phone.

I hope this advice works for you...

Thank you very much for your reply. Also I wanted to note that a DTG employee actually printed the t-shirts for me on a demo and that is why i am pretty skeptical about buying the machine now when I have competitors that are printing high quality shirts and this is how the shirts are turning out. Don form DTG ?

I guess you are asking me if the process actually works. Yes it does when done correctly. The most common problem is too much pre-treatment, followed by improper press time/temperatures. I have dark shirts that have been washed 20+ times and they still look 80-90% of what they looked like after the first wash.

If you would like to send me the shirt I'll take a look at it. I can also provide you with a new sample as well.

I thought you were having problems with your pretreat process. I didn't realize it was a sample shirt that you were testing.

Don that's all you..
