I made one on my own from scratch out of a c120...so converting conventional printers into
DTG printers is certainly possible. I don't doubt that the one in the tread is more elegant and probably more precise and reliable than mine. Don't know if that means that it is precise and reliable though...
1. Have you built it?
2. How much did it cost you to build it in £'s?
3. Does it actually print white?
4. Is the quality good?
1) Yes
2) Besides wasting money on experiments and mistakes, the biggest price was for a continuous ink supply system. From scratch I suppose that I could make one with a couple hundred dollars. Sounds like it is about the same for the one in the big thread.
3) No. I suppose that there would be a way to pull it off, but I gather that the amount of ink that needs to be laid down to get a proper white would demand RIP software...and that is a can of worms that I don't have interest in opening. I'll stay away from dark t-shirts. Sounds to me that if white is a necessity, it is probably better to go in a different direction than DIY
DTG.
4) The quality is great until washing. Maybe I need better t-shirts, maybe different ink, maybe better heat curing process... Get that stuff down and it will be good. Bottom line, I guess, is that even if the shirts don't come out perfect, I am really excited by the results that I have been getting.
