Question Which printer to buy for my specific business?

I am starting up an online t-shirt store and am leaning towards buying a Direct-To-Garment printer. I am looking at a DTG HM1-C and am planning on printing anywhere from 40-100 shirts per day and maybe one or two of the same design, and this is why I like the Direct-To-Garment printers.
I want to avoid screen printing because of the mess and set up, etc. Is this my best option as far as printing and the brand of printer ? I will be printing darks and lights.
Also if pretreatment is applied, is it possible to print on mesh jerseys for sports teams with a DTG, or would heat transfer be the alternative for this?
Thanks alot,

Aaron

Hi Aaron,

Yes, direct-to-garment printing is a good way to print dark and light shirts. At 40-100 pieces a day, your quantity level fits with direct-to-garment.

Direct-to-garment works best on 100% cotton garments. Generally, direct-to-garment printer owners lean towards printing artwork that is either colorful, detailed, individualized, or any combination of those three things.

Heat pressing letters and numbers is a good way to print sports jerseys. You'll have a heat press anyway since you need one to cure your direct-to-garment prints.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

There are those around who will say that they have had success printing on 100% poly but I haven't heard of anyone being able to duplicate it. I have tried and failed. I would never discourage you from trying because you just may figure out a way to do it so if you do please post it in this forum.

Brian

BTW. The ink sprayed through the mesh in my trials so be aware of that.

Some polyester materials will work, especially if they are poly-cotton blends. Generally, prints on garments with poly will not be as bright as prints on cotton.

Thanks alot,

There is CMYK Poly ink specifically for DTG, but the formula for white ink is still forthcoming. Athletic materials tend to be harder to adhere to, bleed or the inks need to be opaque spot colors that CMYK may have a hard time emulating.
