Default Flexi jet ink for poly DTG printing?

Is it possible to set up a Flexi Jet L for printing on polys? Does it take more than the correct ink? Will the print head work with the different ink? Can I use this to print on other non cotton items?

I am setting up a new shop and have purchased 2 used Flexi jet L's. One will be dedicated to cottons and the other......????? I see the NeoFlex offered and figured it might be easier to have 2 machines side by side rather than change out the printer every time the shirt choice changed.

Yes to all of your questions. You'll have to change the ink density levels in the RIP software to reduce the amount of ink that the printer will lay down depending on the product. Something that is non-porous will need less ink, and maybe even some sort of a pre-treatment to get the ink to adhere. Be sure that the ink you use has been tested in the 4800 series printers before filling the machine with it. Have fun!

I have printed on polyester with the DTGInks brand inks. Same inks as used on cotton but the process is different. You could use pretreatment but it is not necessary on most poly material. But you do need to do two lighter passes rather than one heavier one, and then cure by hovering the heat press for 30 seconds then pressing normally ( 350F for 60 seconds ) This process does not work for white ink on poly though. A tunnel dryer may work well too.

I don't know if DuPont CMYK will do the same thing or not- I have never seen it posted that it will work on poly.

A really good use I can see for two machines is to have one set up with white ink and one set up dual CMYK. You can get some really good production that way.

Thanks Michelle. The production idea is one I considered if I could get the poly printing to cooperate. I hope for enough production to need both machines on cotton.

I will keep researching inks and then do some experimental printing. I see Epson promotes their K3 inks as being better than sliced bread but I am not convinced until I see a sample.

The current V.02 inkset gives good results on polyester (though, as Miste said, not with white ink). With any polyester printing it is a good idea to do testing as polyester varies greatly.
