Discuss the various aspects of direct to garment printing. DTG printers include Brother, T-Jet, Flexi-Jet, DTG Kiosk, Kornit, Mimaki, Tex-Jet and others! Discuss and learn about this up and coming printing technology.
I have an american apparel shirt with a vintage style print on it...wondering what kind of printing this is, where I could get something similar done, and how much do you think this costs?
Too hard to tell from that picture. If you can't really feel the design, I would probably say that it is a waterbased screen print ink that was used. It could also be dtg ink... but if it was a shirt printed in the 1,000.... then it would be more cost effective to use waterbased ink. Another way could be heat applied film / vinyl, but you would be able to feel the design on the shirt and it would be hard to make look vintage (which my definition is a worn out look).
Since it is on an ash shirt we can probably rule out discharge and then waterbased ink. My guess is direct to garment - and, if it really looks nice - probably one I sold!
It is difficult to tell what type of ink they used, but the fabric could provide some clues (the garment also appears to be a tri-blend or low gauge 50/50).
Are you trying to achieve the distressed look of the graphic? If so, the process can be distressed by using certain filters in Illustrator. I've achieved this type of "hand" for the print using water-based or a light hand of plastisol.
It is a tri-blend...I dont intend on printing myself, I want to outsource to a company, but I am a neophyte and dont know how to describe the type of printing I want
My guess would be that it was screen printed. Impossible to tell just from a picture from a website. As for costs, you would have to contact a printer in your area to get quotes based on your design and quantities needed.
