[Need Help Selecting Which DTG Machine to Buy] Which DTG PRINTER has the most market share?
I don't know if anyone has exact numbers because I don't the manufacturers / distributors would release that information. I did see a survey done by SGIA that stated there was approximately 9,000 - 10,000 printers sold. Your best bet would be to contact a neutral party like SGIA or one of the magazines.
You should also understand that there is a difference between brands and models - as well as different models from the same one brand can be made by different manufacturers. For example, the T-Jet 1 and T-Jet 2 were manufactured by one company... but later T-Jet models were designed / manufactured by others.
If you have additional questions, feel free to ask them. Not sure if any of us will know the answer or not. Best wishes on your paper.
I would guess that the SGIA numbers are a bit low. It is pretty common knowledge that US Screen has sold at least 4000 printers over the last 4+ years, DTG is over 2500 and Brother should at least be there as well, that makes at least 9000 between these three companies. Add in all the rest and I would venture to guess the number is more like 12,000-13,000 sold since 2004 when the revolution began. Hope this helps.
The first dtg printers were sold back in 1996 1997 range. Just under 30 of them were sold under the name Revolution and Evolution. Here is a post where some actually scanned in some articles from the industry magazines that talk about it - http://www.screenprintinguniversity.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=1736&sid=6294e3ecfa91a15f4de7 41c97b93e5cb. Here is a link from a post back in 2005 on another forum that talks about the first dtg patent that was applied for in 1996 and granted in 2000 - http://www.screenprintinguniversity.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=997&sid=6294e3ecfa91a15f4de74 1c97b93e5cb If I remember correctly, Brother started doing beta testing on its printer around 2002-03 (or somewhere close to that) and did it for an extended period of time. There was actually one in Clearwater, FL near where I lived that I got the chance to see in 2003. In 2004, US Screen / Master Mind brought the first T-Jet out at the SGIA Show.
Most of this information is listed on Page 4 of the dtg101 document - www.multirip.com/dtg101.pdf.
