Talking printing to transparent sheets with your DTG machine

Yep! Another nutty question from Thomas in Orlando.

There's been talk about using there DTG machine to print to other materials other than fabric with varying results. I was wondering if anyone had any success with printing directly to a transparent sheet / clear plastic using a undercoat. The inks are transparent so you'd need the white to back the color. Yall have talked about using a pre-treat at times to get the ink to stick to wood... Could this work with transparencies/plastics? Thanks again.

Dear Nutty,

I guess the question would be, why would you want to print to transparencies? And wouldn't using an inkjet printer be a lot less expensive?

splathead-
Great question! I did say this was nutty- I need the clear part of the sheet to stay clear while the printed part to go opaque. Do you remember in the encyclopedias that had the pages of the human body. You started off with a body, then you could, by turning the page, remove the skin- then organs, bones and such.
So I thought there might be a method to print on clear plastic witht the white undercoat. Where the white might backup the color.

Depending on your dtg, printing a white underbase design will cost you $2+ in ink per transfer?

Compare that to using opaque inkjet ink on transparencies and your cost is maybe 25 cents?
