[White Ink Printing on DTG Printers] 'keeping' white ink
My Kiosk showed up today... as my wife and I were unpacking everything, she noticed the instructions that said the white ink needs to be 'stirred' every couple of days including stock. We started talking about it and she had an idea...
When she worked in a lab, they had devices that were meant to basically shake up or mix chemicals. We're wondering if buying a small shaker might not be a bad idea? Basically keep the bottles of white ink on the thing and leave it on slow continuous mode...
We found one for around $120, less than the cost of 1 bottle of white ink.. Thoughts?
I just learned from a very good source that stirring and shaking is not the best, but works. What I do is alternate from right sideup to upside down everyday. I was made to understand that if you shake or stir to much the formulation gets all screwed up and separates faster. I do not want to freak everyone out but this makes so much sense to me.
In the cartridge you have no other choice than to agitate it for best results in production.
A agitator will cause the titanium pigment to eventually settle or seperate out of the carrier. Stirring the white may introduce particles to large for the nozzles or affect washability
The best way I find is to make sure you shake your white ink bottles vigorously once everyday. If you are using DuPont which I assume you are, the new formula does not settle as fast as the previous formulas. Also a cold enviroment will cause the pigments to settle quicker.
We were thinking of just leaving the stock bottle on top of the shaker to keep it mixed. I'm also concerned about going on vacation and having to in-effect throw away any stock white ink when we come back.
I'd be curious to know how the manufacturors and various suppliers of the white ink handle this on an on-going basis...
we have a DTG branded printer and this now comes with a agitator which continually "stirs " the white ink. We havent had any issues over the last 3 months since getting the printer with the inks splitting or clogging although ours is running almost constantly at the moment so doesn't get much chance for the inks to settle.i wouldn't recommend stirring the inks though as the heads are quite expensive and wouldn't like to get a blockage caused by foreign substances in the inks.
A flexi owner came up with the idea of using a rock tumbler with the tumbler removed to rotate ( roll) bottles of white ink fairly continuoously which was successful. ( Picture one of those hot dog roller/roasters)
