Default Whitebase - white t-shirt - help plz

Okay.... so I'm printing a photo image on a white t-shirt I've chosen to print it with a white base because for the obvious it shows up alot vibrant and sharper now around where there's black in the image when I cure it you can see alot of the white base layer or the white fabric any ideas on how to get around this???

There should be no reason or need to ever print a white underbase on white t-shirts. You are costing yourself both time and money and not getting any advantage in return. Sharpness of the print will not improve with an underbase. If you do need your print to be more vibrant then you should try printing 2 passes.

If you dont like the way the cmky inks soak into the shirt, Harry sells some pretreatment for white garments.

But to answer your question, you might be setup (in your RIP) to print on black shirts, which changes the way white base and black ink are printed.

Do you have the option of unidirectional printing? Printing in unidirecitonal and as close as you can get the print head to the shirt without hitting- you might be happy with no white underbase.

The unidirectional mode always gives a crisper print-sharper edges. It prints going in one direction instead of back and forth. It is a little bit slower. I like to use it on photographs where facial features need to be crisp and on small text. Our RIP has the option of selecting it at print time when selecting the resolution.

Anyway.....solved my own problem by selecting in the rip,

Black base
- Multi Shot Dot by 1440 x 720

Colour
- Variable 4pl, 360 x 360 resolution giving it a light color layer

Then printing it again twice with these settings,

White base
-Var 2 6pl, 720x720

The reason for this is I stated that to much of the white layer or the fabric was seen through the
black areas of the print....when curing, so what I had done was print the first run in black base
turned on so everything that is black in the image wont print then secondly turning on the white
base feature it prints the black areas so when curing now there is no white showing through the
black so the image is more vibrant while still keeping your areas of blacks...black on a white
shirt.

Thanx everyone for all your input learned something new everyday
