Default What DTG for the weekend warrior?

Looking to get into T-Shirt business part time. I have no plans on doing large orders. I am a full time Zookeeper and that takes most of my time. However I am an airbrush artist & I do sell shirts at Flea Markets. What machine do you recommend and what do they run about? Are there any under 10k? Sorry I know you get what you pay for but I have to start small. I would like to be able to print on black shirts and other things like hats & golf balls too. Yes I know I want everything for nothing but a man can dream right. Thank you for your help, this forum is great!!!!!

Good luck trying to run white ink when you are only printing on the weekends. I think that would be a huge mistake because the ink will clog up on you. I think you would be much better off with running a CMYK or Dual CMYK printer - which still requires some maintenance, but not as much as it does with white ink in the printer.

If you are wanting to print at a flea market, you are probably going to want a machine that is portable or at least easy to move around. You are also going to have to be careful with humidity and temperature levels. You might want to read this dtg101 Guide - www.multirip.com/dtg101.pdf.

As for a machine under $10k, there is not one that I am aware of that has been in the market and has been a proven machine that is brand new. There are a couple of printers that I have seen at a show that are close to the $10k amount. You can also look at getting a used / refurbished printer. Harry at Equipment Zone sells a lot of T-Jet 1 and T-Jet 2 that have been refurbished. That might be a better starting point for you.

Best wishes in your decision.

Mark
