Default Realist first quarter for DTG business

I meant, REALISTIC, sorry.

I've run my own business awhile to know that breaking even is hard some months. But I want to get an idea of those that are in the biz?

How many shirts did you sell your first month, second month, third? I want to set realistic goals so I was hoping to hear from others.

Thanks in advance!!
almost part of the passe,
(getting my printer soon!)
Naomi

Hi Naomi,

Wow I dont remember how many I printed in the first months, it definately varied month to month. The best thing to do is go out and sell your service, that is what I did and it worked well. I went to boutiques, bars, churches and schools. Also make sure to let the distributor you buy from know it is ok to refer people to you for printing as alot of times people will call them to find a printer in their area, and they will give this info out if you tell them it is ok. I got alot of business when I first started that way. There is alot of business out there to be had, you just have to network Also one thing I did was contact the screen printers in my area and let them know that if they got any inquiries from people who's orders were too small for screening that I would appreciate them sending them my way and I get alot of those orders now because they know where to refer them too I know it doesnt answer your direct question but it does give some ideas how to meet your quoutas.

Naomi,

I know there is a really good chance that your situation will be nothing like ours but I will answer anyhow.

First off, let me say, we have not started marketing yet. The reason is because we are currently working on something else before we do. Therefore, all our business has been from people who have known we are going to be doing this and from word of mouth.

That being said, let me say, going into business all we heard was "thats great, just what I need, let me know when your setup and we can do business." Well, when we were setup, those same people said "ok... ummm... dont need anything right now, I will let you know." So the first thing we learned was people, in general, like to talk.

Some people did come through though. So far, in two months, we have printed about 70 shirts over the course of about 4-5 orders. Its not a lot, and like I said it would be higher if we actually tried to market. We will be starting to market come next month when we are ready to.

One thing I will say is, allot some time to do tests. We have been testing these past two months and STILL arent confident in the results we have been getting. Constantly experimenting with settings, resolutions, pressure, tempature, time, etc...

Anyway, hope this helps, best of luck to you!

yep I agree with Joe, It took me a good 2 weeks minimum before I sold anything I printed just because I wanted to make sure I had the process down before giving these items to any customers. You should always allow time for learing your equipment and to know you are putting out a quality product. Do lots of prints and wash tests before you print anything that will go out the door.
