Default Design Questions for DTG printing

Can someone point me to a tutorial or description of how prepping art for screen print, spot color, is different for prepping art for DTG printing?

Is there a difference?
I want to understand the process so I can stream line an endeavour I'm faced with implementing.

If I am supplying art to a DTG printer, and giving them 30 files, (consisiting of the same basic art, but each one is personalized)
Is the Printer or Graphic Artist at the Printer going to perceive this as 30 different designs? And is it better to give them the basic template and allow them to drop in the personalizations, or give them the finished files. The later will involve much higher rate of data transfer and I would rather avoid that option. This is a project I'm working on that will be an on going project, not just a 1 time occurence.

Also, I realize this depends on what each DTG printer would prefer, but I am just trying to form a basic understanding of the art setup before I go and shop for someone to do the contract DTG printing. I understand vector art for screen printing, but not DTG printing.

Thank you for any advice or feedback....Hopefully this makes sense

Is the personazation just a change in text? If so then it would be easy to supply one file and have the printer change the text, just make sure you also supply them with the font you are using so it is available to them in case they dont have that particular font. If it were me and I had to personalize everyone different I may charge a small fee as its not just a straight printing of 30 shirts with the same design. I guess it just depends on whether the time for you to personalize versus the cost of the printer making the changes is more important to you.

I also want to say that you are right, that it will all depend on the printer and what that particular printer is willing to do to get your design ready for print. I will usually except any type of file whether its vector or jpeg as long as the file is large enough. I usually ask for 250 to 300 dpi files to make sure I dont have a problem. But if each design is being personalized it is probably best to send vector format. I usually prefer vector in case anything needs to be changed I can do that.

Hope this helps

Layered PSD files are really easy to modify, especially if it just text. In some cases, it is easier to just modify a file 30 times than it is to download 30 files, but yes, that will depend on the printer's preference.
