Default help

Ok, here is my issue. I am working on lt grey guildan ultra 100% shoirt sleeve t-shirts. The design is 3 3x5 pictures and some lettering. I am using coreldrawx3. I used 50/50 treatment and set the design. I called the company the i bought my DTG from and they told me to cure it at 325 deg at 15-20 seconds. So i did 20 seconds. After the first was, all of the white came out. Please steer me in the right direction. I am pulling my hair out.

Matt

Matt,

You are way under drying. The recommended time for garments printed with white ink is 2 1/2 to 3 minutes at 330 degrees. At 20 seconds you are not even coming close to even semi drying your ink and that is why the white is washing out. Keep in mind that this is water based ink so if you let it air dry it will appear dry but not have any washability. These inks need to be heat set for the correct amount of time to achieve washability.

Hi Matt,

Where did you buy the machine from?

Are you using a sheet to cover your image (ie Teflon or silicone parchment) when you're curing?

Also when you are printing with white, I suggest that you treat it like you are printing on a dark shirt. So I think your time should be btw 2-3 minutes depending on your heat press.

Additionally, how are you applying and setting the pre-treatment before printing, that may also be a culprit.

If you are talking about curing only the pretreatment layer-you are close on time. Cure it until it stops steaming.

Also this is the general rule of thumb curing the ink- if it is still steaming it probably needs a bit more time. You can open the press haflway through the time to prevent scorching by cooling the shirt a little.

Hi Matt,

It sounds like the time you were originally instructed may have been the pretreatment curing time of 15-20 sec.

You should definitely do some testing maybe lowering or increasing the pressure of your heat press as well.
