Question White ink issues?

Can anyone confirm that there inks on the market that are too aggressive for the print heads? Which inks would be the best to use? Or which printer is known not to have that problem handling white ink?

Smile Re: White ink issues?

Hi,

Except for several companies like Kornit and Brother I believe that most Direct to Garment printers on the market use DuPont ink, color and white, re-branded under their own name.

The ink has been thoroughly tested and is popular throughout the industry, thats why there are so many dtg printer brands using it.

Yes there are ink companies trying to enter the dtg market place.. (maybe thats who you're referring to) ..with those its buyer beware.. I would go with an established and reputable ink manufacturer with a provenand time tested product.

Default Re: White ink issues?

I don't sell any inks or machines- I do own a Flexi-jet.

As far as WHITE ink goes- DuPont does have a new white ink that is supposed to settle and clog less than the original white ink. I do not print with white ink though since I switched to dual CMYK. Although there are other white inks that have been introduced ( like R & H - now discontinued) thus far the DuPont white is more common option unless using a Kornit. The white ink is hard on the print heads and also needs additional maintenance due to a tendency to settle and clog.

However in CMYK there are many options. Some relabel DuPont and some label as DuPont- and some are from other manufacturers.I have used R & H and loved it- but it is discontinued. I have wash tested DuPont CMYK, and DTGINKS CMYK( which is not relabeled DuPont) and seen several wash tests on AA inks(also not relabeled DuPont) and distributed by All American Supply.

AA and DuPont both require a 720 y 720 print- preferably two pass- to achieve decent pop- and many people are using a pretreatment ( like the US Screen fastcolor) even on lights to get good washability. The cure time is also long- 120-18- seconds - in part because of having to lay down more ink.

The dtginks which I now use are great at 360E or dual 360 by 360 with no pretreatment and cure in 60 seconds. They are compatible with the DuPont white- AA is also.

I have been receiving messages asking for the name of the manufacturers of these inks and the new textile bright by DTG- I have no answer for that question.

All American and DTGINKS formerly sold DuPont and R & H - NOT relabeled, but clearly labeled by manufacturer. Colman and Company relabels all of its inks. However I do not believe any of the new lines, DTGINKS, TEXTILE BRIGHT, AND AA INKS are relabeled Dupont based on the ink appearance and performance- unless they are a brand new line of DuPont. But all three are private labeled- therefore the manufacturer is not stated on the label.

The bottom line is IMHO it is best to use the ink that best fits your business model regardless of who the manufacturer or distributor is. If possible talk to owners who actually use these and other inks and get their first hand opinion on washability, maintenance , etc.
