Discuss the various aspects of direct to garment printing. DTG printers include Brother, T-Jet, Flexi-Jet, DTG Kiosk, Kornit, Mimaki, Tex-Jet and others! Discuss and learn about this up and coming printing technology.
I can print pretty much anything, except when it comes to text. The print has a slight halo effect when the text is any smaller than about 1/4". I'm curious to see if other DTG printers are experiencing similar issue. I'm getting the bed as close to the print head as possible, and it's on very steady platform. The graphic is 200dpi, printing smaller than the actual print size.

I tend to have a problem with white text sometimes, don't know why, but so far colour text works fine, I think it's about finding the right settings to do the job.
I can only contest to printing small text like what u are speaking of on the brother dtg and the first thing that i do is check the palet making sure its not to low the further the shirt is from printhead the blurrier the text will be if that isnt the issue i would definetly check the head alignment of all colors and that all jets are firing. of corse i dont print white so it might be another problem with that process
I too print with a Brother GT541 and can get pretty darn small with the text - much smaller than 1/4". Although we typically only do this with TM and circle R marks. For instance, we print apparel for Univ of Ga and the registered marks are probably closer to 1/8" and still legible. As mentioned before, platen height is critical - get as close to the heads as possible without getting a nasty head strike!
1/4" is probably about right. Can't get much closer without a wrinkle causing problems. What printer do you have? 200dpi should be fine, but can you go higher?
We have a T-jet 2. I can go higher, but we're printing at 720 CMYK mode because of smearing problem. It seems like the higher the mode, the lower the max ink level we have to set so it won't smear.

Well, I personally did an alignment routine yesterday and it is printing much better now. There's stlil a slight halo effect, but not as bad as before.

I don't know what RIP software your using, but the DTG Kiosk in the UK comes with Print Pro.
I seem to remember speaking with one of the tech guys about text printing and he mentioned changing the print direction to Uni directional from the device options. I've not personally tried it yet, but thought I would mention it, just incase it does help.
