[DTG Pretreatment] Alternative for printing on polyester if purchasing a DTG?
Alternative for printing on polyester if purchasing a DTG?
I am purchasing a direct-to-garment printer (DTG HM1C) in the near future and it does not have the capability to print on mesh athletic jerseys (Polyester) What is the best route to take for my business for being able to do material like this ? (inkjet transfer, vinyl, etc.....) or has someone found a way to print on material that is mostly poly with a DTG ?
Re: Alternative for printing on polyester if purchasing a DTG?
Kornit says they have updated their RIP so that you could print even on dark polyester sports jersey fabrics. Could be the way to go, if you really want this capability.
Re: Alternative for printing on polyester if purchasing a DTG?
Kornit makes the claim of printing on polyester with white ink, but, from my understanding it is a very limited number of types of polyester that it will work on. Besides - a Kornit cots 6-15 times the price of an HM1-C.
Re: Alternative for printing on polyester if purchasing a DTG?
New technology in some inks mean you can print onto polyester with the same ink set as you use for normal cotton based agrments with any epson based printer including the HM1.

I would go with a vinyl cutter, it will open up so many more options, team baseball, hockey football jerseys and many other team sports plus with all the different types of vinyl, flock, and glitter the possibilities are endless. I've had my cutter for five years and never had a problem with it! Also the initial cost isn't too bad 3000$ for the cutter and heat press(new).
Re: Alternative for printing on polyester if purchasing a DTG?
If you are going to do single color designs like lettering, heat press vinyl is your best option. If you need multiple colors, go with plastisol transfers made for use on poly.
Re: Alternative for printing on polyester if purchasing a DTG?
So to be able to do this I could just go out and buy a epson printer with special plastisol inks and release paper and have the capability to print on poly ?
