I have noticed that the postings on DTG are out-dated. There are some new posts but very little. I am considering the purchase of dtg printer but with the lack of new information or new success with new technology your left with mostly a parade of old messages stating yes its a good printer, than no it isn't, yes, no. This, along with the lack of new postings makes one question where this technology is going and if the machines are any more reliable today than 2 years ago.

The technology has pretty much matured. White ink is what it is. It's just a matter of how you maintain your ink. Ask Epson converted machines their 50/50 gambles and brother and kornit are intheir own class.

There is actually lots of updated info on the machines out there. I think what you are seeing is that with some of the newer machines, they are so new still that there is just not much feedback on them as of yet. If you look at this thread What DTG machine do you own and how did you make your decision on it :), it is updated by members as they buy their machines and has some pretty current info in it.
I think also because the economy is not as strong as it was say a year ago, there are many less sales of machines out there right now, so you do see a slow down in the postings, the same as you see a slow down in the economy

Hey wholesaleprint is it possible for you to post in that thread above that I referenced too, and copy the questions on the first page, and then paste them and answer them, so that we can also have the new info on the new brother in that thread as well? If you could do that, that would be awesome Thanks

Inur,
The fundamentals have not changed, and you may be surprised at how many people still get into this business without reading all this great info. Even though there is a lot of old stuff here... if you refuse to see the value of what is here, you will not appreciate how much better machines, ink and choice have gotten. If you have a question, ask. Many questions and answers have passed this way, some asked(and answered) more that we care to admit, but if you can't find it, ask away!

Wow, pretty bold statement. I really do not believe that the technology has fully matured. I see the technology growing for another 5-10 years. If your statements are true - then you are conceding that mature means expensive. Brother and Kornit are different beasts than the converted Epsons, no doubt. They also are inferior in print quality to the the Epson machines, across the board. I tend to think that we can call this technology "mature" when one can buy a machine at the price of an Epson-based machine, with more industrial printheads like the Kornit & Brother, with the print quality of the Epson-based units. I don't think we are there yet.
It is very possible to be successful with most any direct to garment printer - as long as you follow some very basic tenents - have a plan to market the output and follow through with it, take any and all training offered for your machine, have a plan to market the output and follow through with it, do your scheduled maintenace on your machine, have a plan to market the output and follow through with it, do not try to "replace" screen printing with direct to garment, have a plan to market the output and follow through with it, did I mention - have a plan to market the output and follow through with it?!?!?
